DIRECTIONS FOR USE – RESPIMAT™ INHALER

Preparing the inhaler for first time use

  • Press the safety catch and pull off the clear base.
  • Push the narrow end of the cartridge into the inhaler until you hear a click.
  • Put the clear base back into place. Once this is done, the inhaler should not be taken apart.

Priming the inhaler

These steps must be followed prior to taking the first dose and when the inhaler has not been used for more than 3 days (Combivent) or 7 days (Spiriva and Inspiolto).

  • Hold the inhaler upright. Turn the clear base half a turn until you hear a click, then remove the protective cap.
  • Point the inhaler towards the ground, press the dose release button and close the cap.

If the inhaler has never been used or has not been used for more than 21 days, repeat these steps until a spray is visible. Then, repeat these steps three more times to prepare the inhaler for use.

Using the inhaler

  • Hold the inhaler upright. Turn the clear base half a turn until you hear a click, then remove the protective cap.
  • Breathe out fully and close your lips around the end of the mouthpiece without covering the air vents.
  • As you take a slow, deep breath, press on the release button.
  • Continue to breathe in for as long as possible.
  • Hold your breath for 10 seconds or more, if possible.
  • Breathe out gently then close the cap.

Clean the inhaler at least once a week with a damp cloth or tissue.

The inhaler is equipped with a dose indicator. When the pointer reaches the red area of the scale, there is enough medication for approximately 7 days. Once the dose indicator has reached the end of the scale, the inhaler is empty.

If you have problems using your inhaler, speak to your pharmacist, as he or she will be able to help you.
