MODIFIED DAKIN’S SOLUTION
This easy-to-prepare, inexpensive, and disinfecting solution can be prepared at home. Always follow these quantities, and prepare a new solution each time you need it. Use it for external use only. Discard any unused portion.

4% bleach (e.g., La Parisienne™) | 5 mL (1 teaspoon) in 800 mL (3 cups) boiled water |
6% bleach (e.g., Javex™) | 5 mL (1 teaspoon) in 1200 mL (5 cups) boiled water |
Use once or twice daily. Protect intact skin. Rinse the skin with boiled water after treatment. |
This solution should not be use on a regular basis. Some believe that, even though it is an effective antiseptic, it may sometimes delay healing.
You can also prepare a chlorine-free solution at home. It is very effective but more expensive. It is odourless and will not discolour clothes.
