DIRECTIONS FOR USE: HANDIHALER™
Some medications come in powder form and are administered using different types of inhaler devices. Dry powder inhalers deliver the medication to your lungs with the aid of your inhalation force. Unlike metered-dose inhalers, the HandiHaler™ does not contain propellant gas. When using the HandiHaler™, please adhere to the following instructions:
- Open the cover and the mouthpiece.
- Insert the capsule into the chamber. Close the mouthpiece firmly until you hear a “click”.
- Holding the device upwards, press the green button completely to pierce the capsule. Release.
- The powder is now ready for inhalation.
- Turn your head away from the inhaler and exhale deeply.
- Place the mouthpiece between your teeth, closing your lips around it. Avoid chewing the mouthpiece.
- Inhale forcefully and deeply while keeping your head upright; you should hear the capsule vibrate.
- Hold your breath for 10 seconds, or longer if possible.
- Exhale slowly.
- Repeat these steps to ensure you receive the full dose.
- To discard the capsule, open the mouthpiece and reverse the device.
- Replace the cover before storing your inhaler. Clean all components of the HandiHaler™ once a month with warm water, allowing them to air dry for 24 hours.
- If the inhaler is dropped after loading a dose or if you exhale into it, the dose will be lost. In such cases, repeat the steps mentioned above.
- It’s normal for individuals not to taste or feel any medication when inhaling dry powder.
