DIRECTIONS FOR USE: DRAWING MEDICATION FROM A VIAL
Medications are administered in dry powder form through different inhaler devices. Dry powder inhalers deliver the medication to the lungs through the force of the breath. Unlike metered-dose inhalers, the Breezhaler™ does not contain any propellant gas. When using the Breezhaler™, it is important to adhere to the following directions
- Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water.
- If specified on the label, gently shake or rotate the vial.
- Remove the vial cap and use an alcohol wipe to clean the top of the vial.
- Gently pull the syringe plunger to draw an amount of air equal to the medication volume.
- Insert the needle through the rubber top of the vial.
- Gradually inject the air into the vial.
- Invert the vial and gradually pull the plunger until the correct medication volume is drawn, ensuring the needle remains in the solution.
- Remove the needle from the vial and promptly recap it.
- If air bubbles are present in the syringe, hold the syringe vertically with the needle facing upward.
- Tap the barrel gently to allow bubbles to rise.
- Slowly push the plunger until all bubbles vanish.
Clean the skin where you plan to inject the drug using an alcohol swab and use the injection technique you learned from your health care professional.
Needles and syringes should only be used once and then thrown away since they may be dirty and blunt. Always use a sharps (disposal) container to safely discard used syringes and needles. Return the container to the pharmacy when it is full or you no longer need it.
