Some medications are designed in a powdered form and administered through different types of inhaler devices. Dry powder inhalers facilitate the delivery of the drug to the lungs through the force of your inhalation. Unlike metered-dose inhalers, the Diskus™ does not contain any propellant gas. When using the Diskus™, it’s important to adhere to the following instructions:

  • Slide open the outer case of the device.
  • Administer a dose by holding the device with one hand and using the thumb of the other hand to press on the lever (refer to the illustration).
  • Push the lever as far as it can go, and listen for the “click” sound.
  • Turn your head away from the Diskus™ and take a deep exhale.
  • Position the Diskus™ mouthpiece in your mouth.
  • Tilt your head back slightly and inhale deeply.
  • Hold your breath for 10 seconds or longer if possible.
  • Exhale slowly.
  • If you require another dose of the same medication, wait at least 1 minute before taking it, and remember to load the next dose.
Close the Diskus™ by sliding the outer case back over the mouthpiece. This action will cause the lever to return to its initial position, ready for the next use.

The Diskus™ inhaler is equipped with a dose indicator, providing information on the remaining doses. You can use a dry cloth to clean the mouthpiece, but avoid using water.
